Something About 12:29 a.m.
On Thursday night we had a thunderstorm that kept me up way past midnight. At about 12:30 I had given up trying to get to sleep and decided to listen to "In Your Honor", the new Foo Fighters c.d. . I try to keep up with the news over here but somehow I missed the fact The Foo Fighters even had a new disc (a double one at that). I've been a Foo Fighters fan ever since I first saw them at Edgefest '97 and then again at Woodstock '99 (they dominated at Edgefest). It was actually on the June 29th episode of "The Daily Show with John Stewart" that I first heard about the new c.d. . Stewart mentioned the disc a number of times on his show so my expectations were running high. The first disc was so-so. I think it's one of those c.d.'s that grows on people over time. While I was impressed with a few of the songs (No Way Back; Best of You; Resolve) the rest of them didn't do anything for me. Like I said, I hadn't heard very much about this double c.d. so you can imagine my surprise when I listened to the second disc. While the first c.d. was typical Foo Fighters rock the second was straight pop. Yikes. The only good pop song The Foo Fighters put out was "The Big Me." Listening to the second c.d. made me sleepy enough to go back to bed. In my opinion the only hard rock band that can pull of both rock and slow pop is the now defunct Smashing Pumpkins (Billy Corgan said he wants to get the band back together). The Foo Fighters do a much better job rocking than popping.
*The song playing is "No Way Back."
